Project Overview
Intracut was proud to partner with W.E. O’Neil Construction on the Northrop Grumman High Bay expansion project in Redondo Beach, California.
This second phase focused on extensive exterior civil removals across multiple areas of the property.
Working alongside W.E. O’Neil Construction, our team executed a broad site demolition scope designed to clear the way for future construction, utility upgrades, and infrastructure improvements. This phase required careful coordination, efficient material handling, and disciplined scheduling over a long-term project timeline.
Scope of Work – Site Demolition
The site demolition phase involved the removal of a wide range of exterior improvements and underground site elements, including:
The scope included:
- Asphalt paving removal
- Concrete pavement demolition
- Sidewalk demolition
- Curb and gutter removals
- Vault removals
- Storm drain system removals
- Equipment pad demolition
- Tank removals
- Fencing removals
- Cooling tower removals
- Bollard removals
- Miscellaneous site infrastructure demolition
This work was completed across active and evolving project areas, requiring flexibility and constant communication as access, sequencing, and construction priorities changed throughout the project.
Efficient Material Separation & Recycling
Because of the volume of demolition involved, site organization and material handling were critical to the success of this phase.
Intracut carefully separated and managed materials for proper disposal and recycling, including:
- Segregation of concrete and asphalt materials
- Haul-off of demolition debris to approved facilities
- Scrap metal sorting into designated bins
- Continuous cleanup to maintain safe and efficient work zones
Maintaining a clean, organized site was essential for a project of this size, especially with multiple trades and construction activities running in parallel.
Civil Demolition with Long-Term Project Coordination
Unlike a short-duration site clear-out, this phase was part of a larger, year-long industrial expansion project. Our crews worked methodically through multiple exterior zones, adapting to the project’s evolving needs while keeping pace with WE O’Neil’s construction schedule.
Equipment utilized during this phase included:
- Excavators, Bobcats, Haul trucks, & Support equipment for concrete and pavement removals.
This phase highlighted Intracut’s ability to manage civil demolition scopes at scale, while maintaining productivity, safety, and reliable communication over the life of a major project.
Preparing the Site for What Comes Next
The successful completion of Phase 2 created a clean, construction-ready site for the next stages of development at Northrop Grumman.
From pavement removals to underground utility-related demolition, this phase showcased Intracut’s strength in site preparation, civil demolition, and heavy exterior removals for complex commercial and industrial projects.
We are proud to have supported W.E. O’Neil Construction on this major expansion effort and to have helped move the project forward with efficient, organized, and well-executed site demolition.
