Project Overview

Intracut was proud to partner with W.E. O’Neil Construction on the Northrop Grumman High Bay expansion project in Redondo Beach, California.

This third phase focused on extensive selective demolition requiring precision, flexibility, and close coordination within an active industrial facility.

Unlike broad structural or site removals, this phase focused on targeted demolition and modification work, removing specific systems, creating new openings, trenching slabs, and preparing existing structures for new mechanical, structural, and infrastructure improvements. This phase demonstrated the kind of controlled demolition work Intracut is known for: clean, accurate, and construction-driven.

Scope of Work – Selective Demolition

The selective demolition phase included a wide range of interior, structural, and mechanical removals throughout the high-bay, low-bay, annex, and loading-dock areas.

Interior Soft Demolition

Intracut crews removed:

  • T-bar ceilings
  • Ceiling tiles
  • Lighting systems
  • HVAC systems
  • Ductwork
  • Rooftop systems
  • Insulated exhaust systems
  • Specialty piping
  • Non-load-bearing partitions
  • Access flooring
  • Roll-up doors & Door framing systems

Materials were separated and handled carefully to support recycling and proper disposal, especially for large volumes of scrap metal, insulated ducting, and piping.

Structural Cutting & Concrete Modifications

This phase also included highly specialized concrete cutting and structural modification work to support future construction.

Our team completed:

  • Wall sawing to create new openings and widen existing opening
  • Core drilling without overcuts
  • Selective removal of exterior walls for mechanical louvers
  • Concrete trenching for utility and infrastructure upgrades
  • Slab cutting for new foundations
  • Removal of trench slabs
  • Clean corner coring to preserve structural integrity

These operations required precise planning and execution to ensure that surrounding structures remained protected and that project requirements were met exactly.

Bridge Crane Dismantling & Specialty Removals

One of the standout elements of this phase was the bridge crane dismantling and rail removal within the facility.

This specialized scope involved:

  • Disassembly of crane components in sections
  • Safe lowering and staging of components
  • Removal of crane rails
  • Coordination of elevated work in active facility conditions

In addition, crews completed:

  • Guardrail removals
  • Downspout removals
  • Siding removals
  • Phased roof-related modifications

Precision Demolition in an Active Industrial Environment

Because this work took place within an active, highly coordinated project environment, every cut, removal, and demolition sequence had to be carefully planned.

Intracut maintained:

  • Strict safety standards
  • Daily site cleanup
  • Controlled debris management
  • Ongoing coordination with W.E. O’Neil’s field leadership
  • Flexibility as the project scope evolved throughout the year

This phase showcased the value of a demolition contractor that understands how to work inside complex industrial spaces where precision matters just as much as production.

Selective Demolition That Keeps Construction Moving

Phase 3 was a critical part of preparing the Northrop Grumman facility for expansion and modernization. From interior soft demolition to structural openings, trenching, and crane removals, Intracut delivered a highly coordinated selective demolition scope that supported the project from start to finish.

We are proud to have supported W.E. O’Neil Construction on this important project and grateful for the opportunity to help deliver demolition solutions on a major industrial expansion.
