Project Overview
Intracut was proud to partner with W.E. O’Neil Construction on the Northrop Grumman High Bay expansion project in Redondo Beach, California.
This first phase focused on large-scale building demolition, requiring careful planning, coordination of heavy equipment, and safe execution within an active industrial environment
From the beginning, this was not a standard demolition project. The building demolition scope involved removing multiple structures within a highly sensitive facility while maintaining strict safety controls and minimizing disruption to surrounding operations
Scope of Work – Building Demolition
During this phase, Intracut completed the demolition of multiple small buildings along with a large multi-story high-bay metal structure that was part of the expansion footprint.
The scope included:
- Demolition of multiple existing building structures
- Demolition of roof systems
- Removal of slab-on-grade concrete foundations
- Removal of structural footings
- Phased roof separation work
- High-elevation demolition in active facility conditions
Each structure was dismantled in carefully planned stages to maintain control over debris handling, equipment access, and site safety. Because portions of the surrounding facility remained active, the work required constant coordination with WE O’Neil’s field team to ensure every demolition sequence aligned with the overall construction schedule.
High Bay Structural Demolition with Precision
One of the most challenging aspects of this phase was the demolition of the large high-bay structure, which required a methodical approach to structural separation and removal.
Our team managed:
- Controlled dismantling of elevated roof sections, Separation of structural components in phases, Protection of adjacent areas that remained in service, Safe removal of large steel members & Continuous debris management and haul-off.
This phase demanded more than brute-force demolition; it required precision, sequencing, and communication. By breaking the work into controlled sections, Intracut maintained production while protecting surrounding structures and keeping the project moving forward.
Heavy Equipment & Site Coordination
To support the building demolition phase, Intracut deployed a coordinated fleet that included:
- Excavators, Bobcats, Scissor lifts, Haul trucks & Support cutting equipment as required.
Crews worked through multiple areas of the facility while maintaining strict housekeeping standards, organizing material staging, and ongoing communication with W.E. O’Neil Construction.
A Strong Start to a Landmark Project
Phase 1 set the tone for the entire Northrop Grumman project. The successful completion of the building demolition scope created the foundation for future work and demonstrated Intracut’s ability to execute complex industrial demolition projects safely, efficiently, and in phases.
We are proud to have supported WE O’Neil Construction on this major facility transformation and to have played a key role in preparing the site for the next stages of construction.
