Major Concrete Cutting & Breaking Project in Downtown LA

Project Overview

Intracut successfully completed an extensive concrete cutting, breaking and removal project for Canyon Builders at 929 E. 2nd Street in Downtown Los Angeles. Over approximately five months, our team performed demanding concrete work throughout the basement, Level 01, and Level 02.

The project required extensive flat saw cutting and controlled concrete breaking of slabs, structural openings, raised concrete sections, stairs, steps, ramps and concrete and CMU walls.

Basement Concrete Cutting & Breaking

At the basement level, Intracut completed more than 550 linear feet of saw cutting through 6-inch-thick concrete slab on grade to facilitate new foundation work. Our team then broke and removed more than 4,200 square feet of concrete slab, along with concrete stairs and approximately 830 square feet of non-structural concrete and CMU walls.

Structural Concrete Cutting for New Openings

One of the most significant aspects of the project was cutting and removing 12-inch-thick structural concrete slabs to create new openings.

On Level 01, our team:

• Saw cut approximately 200 linear feet of 12-inch-thick structural concrete
• Broke and removed approximately 1,000 square feet of structural concrete
• Broke and removed 780 square feet of raised concrete slab, approximately 15 inches thick
• Removed concrete stairs, steps and ramps
• Broke and removed approximately 1,612 square feet of interior concrete and CMU walls

On Level 02, Intracut continued the concrete cutting and breaking work, including:

• Approximately 229 linear feet of saw cutting through 12-inch-thick structural concrete
• Breaking and removal of approximately 1,231 square feet of structural concrete
• Breaking and removal of approximately 304 square feet of concrete stairs
• Removal of approximately 1,963 square feet of interior concrete and CMU walls

The Right Equipment for a Challenging Multi-Level Project

Completing this project required careful coordination between our experienced concrete cutting and demolition crews and specialized equipment. The operation included flat saws, Bobcats, a mini excavator, chipping guns and a Brokk with a breaker.

The upper-level concrete breaking work presented additional logistical challenges, requiring heavy equipment to be safely transported and positioned. We thank PDQ Rentals for their valuable support with forklifts and equipment handling throughout the project.
