Project Overview
TIS Construction commissioned Intracut to perform a comprehensive, selective demolition at the CSMC Center trailer site in Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles.
The project demanded precision, efficiency, and a meticulous approach to ensure safety and the preservation of reusable materials.
Over 16 to 17 days, our skilled team executed the plan with great attention to detail, contributing to the successful demobilization of the site.
Scope of Work
Our team began the project by cutting off the trailer walls from the steel plates on the first day using electric handsaws with 14″ cut-off wheels. The extensive work involved multiple facets of Demolition, each requiring careful handling and precise execution:
Removing Decking and Steel: The initial phase involved removing all decking and steel elements to prepare the site for further demolition tasks.
Selective Demolition – 2 Mobilizations: Our team undertook two mobilizations for selective demolition activities, which included:
ADA Scissor Lift: Removed and saved for reuse.
Conduits within Mobile Trailer Space: Identified and safely off-loaded by others (9,000 SF).
Canopy, Framing, & Awning Panels: Demoed, including support pads (2,573 SF).
Electrical Equipment Supports, Panel Boxes, Doors, and Hardware: They are Removed and saved for reuse.
Fencing and Gates: Selective demolition of existing fencing as specified.
Water Heaters, Softeners, & Associated Plumbing: Demoed with materials saved for reuse.
Platforms, Ramps, and Supports: Demolished a total area of 3,700 SF.
Concrete Equipment Pads: Broke and removed two concrete equipment pads.
Flooring and Subfloor: Demoed sheet vinyl flooring and plywood subfloor in SPD trailers (1,182 SF).
Unistrut Removal: Removed from the interior perimeter of three SPD trailers (386 LF).
Commercial Coaches Removal: Our team removed a portion of the fence (50 LF) to facilitate the removal of commercial coaches and performed saw cutting, breaking, and removing seismic trailer piers and pads at trailers 1 and 2.
Equipment and Resources
To ensure the project was executed efficiently and safely, we deployed a range of specialized equipment:
- Boom lift, Man lift (19′)
- Bobcat and Forklift for canopy demolition
- Hand saws to cut asphalt around equipment pads
- Proper disposal of light materials and waste management through scrap bins and 40-yard bins.
Challenges and Solutions
The selective Demolition required our team to carefully identify and remove specific elements without disturbing the surrounding infrastructure. We faced challenges, particularly with the seismic trailer piers requiring precise cutting and removal techniques. Our experienced crew utilized advanced tools and safety protocols to mitigate risks and ensure the site’s structural integrity.
